Aims & Scope

International Journal of Sexual Science is the official publication of the Federation of Sexual Health Associations aiming to advance the understanding of sexual health as a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being, grounded in a positive perspective on sexuality and sexual rights. International Journal of Sexual Health is rooted in the principle that sexual health encompasses more than the absence of disease or dysfunction. It is an academic journal dedicated to advancing the interdisciplinary study of sexual science. These disciplines each contributing unique perspectives and methodologies to the study of human sexuality include biology, anatomy, physiology, medicine, gynecology, urology, psychology, psychiatry, neurology, pharmacology, and public health.

International Journal of Sexual Science is an international, online, open-access journal. The journal provides a platform for researchers, clinicians, educators, and policymakers to explore and share insights on the biological, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of sexual health and behavior. It features double-blind peer-reviewed articles, editorials, and reviews, utilizing diverse methodologies such as quantitative and qualitative research, critical analyses, surveys, and case studies to explore this multifaceted concept.

The journal is published three times a year in April, August, and December. Special or supplementary issues may also be released. Even for these special editions, the Editorial Board has full control over the evaluation and publication processes, regardless of external funding. The same ethical principles and publishing guidelines apply to all issues.

The Editorial Board is responsible for managing the publication and review processes, with the Editor holding final decision-making authority.

The journal's owner appoints editors and has the authority to remove them if necessary. Such decisions are based on serious matters like scientific misconduct or behavior inconsistent with editorial responsibilities. Any removal is reviewed by an independent committee before being finalized.

Publication services are provided by an independent publishing company. The Editor selects this company, which handles tasks like management of the editorial secretariat, formatting articles for publication, assigning DOIs, and maintaining the journal’s website and online peer-review system.
